We applaud the Washington State Healthcare Authority’s (HCA) Health Technology Assessment (HTA) resulting in a new coverage determination of spinal cord stimulation (SCS). This decision enables access to SCS therapy for state employees, Medicaid recipients, and individuals with worker’s compensation coverage. SCS helps treat low back pain, failed back surgery syndrome (persistent lower back pain experienced post spine surgery), or painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (a debilitating complication of diabetes). This was a collective effort from the passionate advocacy of local physicians, the North American Neuromodulation Society (NANS) in collaboration with many additional physician societies, and companies that develop this technology for people living with chronic pain.
