From sports bars to busy brunch spots to sophisticated and sexy nightclubs, Atlanta has no shortage of vibrant dining and drinking destinations owned by Black entrepreneurs. Whether it’s starting your day with lobster mac ‘n cheese on Decatur Street, watching the game with co*cktails and hookah, or getting fresh air on an Edgewood rooftop, Atlanta wouldn’t be ATL without its locally-owned restaurants and bars.

With all the challenges these small businesses have faced this year, they deserve our support, now and always. We’ve teamed up with Crown Royal to highlight 10 of the city’s most vibrant eateries and nightlife scenes, all of which also offer takeout and delivery so you can take a break from cooking and still elevate your next night in. But don’t take our word for it — give their menus a try for yourself.

A number of Atlanta-area bars and restaurants have resumed dine-in service at limited capacity, including several on this map. However, this should not be taken as endorsem*nt for dining in, as there are still safety concerns. For updated information on local regulations during the COVID-19 pandemic, visit the Georgia Department of Public Health website.

Ormewood newcomer The Beverly has drawn crowds for its American-Caribbean fusion cuisine (hello, jerk chicken eggrolls), handsome modern dining room, and seasonal craft drinks since opening its doors to the neighborhood last year. Now, the Beverly is set to be East Atlanta’s game-day go-to, thanks to plenty of flatscreen TVs and an open, airy dining room that feels a lot more grown-up than the typical sports spot.

When it comes to getting close to the action, it doesn’t get much closer than Restaurant 10, a stone’s throw from the Falcons’ home stadium. This downtown spot combines the atmosphere of a modern, sleek bar, the energy of a local fan destination, and the food of an inventive, Southern-influenced kitchen all in one. (Why choose between game-day-ready barbecue nachos or truffle fries when you can have both?) Add to that an excellent list of specialty co*cktails (including a bubbly and seasonally appropriate Crownberry Apple Fizz) and plenty of flatscreens to bring you right into the action — without the stadium-sized crowds.

If you’ve ever driven down Ponce on a game day, then you’ve almost definitely spotted the partygoers outside Boogalou. The vibe here is a little more decadent and grown-up than your standard sports bar: think chandeliers, tufted velvet banquettes, and food that goes well beyond “pub grub.”

It’s never a bad time to hit a rooftop patio, but these days, dining and drinking al fresco has taken on a whole new level of significance. For fans who like barbecue and whiskey (and who doesn’t?), Tom, Dick and Hank’s second-story patio is the place to be: the smoker turns out fork-tender pulled pork, ribs, and wings, while the bar’s signature drinks include sips like the Perfect Atlantan, a highly crushable combo of Crown Royal Apple, agave, raspberry, lime, and cranberry.

Suite Food Lounge is a full-service downtown restaurant that morphs into a nightlife spot once the sun goes down. In other words: come for the lobster and champagne to impress your date; stick around for live music or even comedy nights, plus signature co*cktails served at not one, not two, but three bars, including one with outdoor seating. Suite’s social calendar stays full, too: there’s pretty much always a party going on, from brunch and Falcons games to crab legs and karaoke — not to mention the lounge’s famous ticketed day parties.

Tucked in right next to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, this cheerful little cafe has the best of both worlds: locally brewed coffee and avocado toast, yes,but also soulful and hearty breakfast food and a full bar and specialty co*cktail menu. The soul doesn’t stop with the shrimp and grits served up by the kitchen, either: Rosie’s, named after the co-owner’s late mother, donates a portion of its proceeds to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America in her honor at the end of each year.

A bustling brunch spot by day and sophisticated lounge by night, the BQE opened in 2013 as a homage to both Harlem Renaissance-era New York and the South, with an eclectic and polished atmosphere and down-home Southern cuisine. Now, the restaurant and bar draws Old Fourth Ward crowds for both its soulful dishes (think red velvet chicken ‘n waffles and rich, creamy gouda grits) and lively scene. (And we do mean lively —you’ll probably want to make a reservation if you hope to have a crack at those waffles and grits.)

Breakfast at Barney’s just might be one of the most stylish all-day breakfast spots downtown: the dining room is decked out in jewel tones, plush velvet, statement wallpaper, and brass accents. (There is also, we must add, lobster mac; a full bar; and for the adventurous high rollers, a $1,000 “breakfast tower” that involves lobster, gold pancakes, and a flashy gold bottle of Ace of Spades champagne.) More importantly, the restaurant’s co-owners, “Barney” Lee Berry Jr. and Dr. Rashad Sanford, are two homegrown entrepreneurs and Atlanta University Center alums who plan to make Barney’s a citywide destination for Black art, music, and food, with live soul and R&B performances weekly.

Reserve a spot at this Old Fourth Ward hookah lounge for a low-key night out or date night. Along with specialty hookah blends, you can count on great music, specialty co*cktails, and sophisticated small plates like crab cakes and lamb lollipops.

Sure, you could watch the game in your living room with cheap beer and chicken wings… or, you do it Buckhead-style. At Atlantis, that means cheering on the team while sipping specialty co*cktails (we like the Siren’s Crown, a seasonal ginger-cranberry sipper with Crown Royal Regal Apple) and sampling the kitchen’s fusion cuisine, from chicken and waffles to lobster mac ‘n cheese.
